Progress Built on Commitment

PhRMA is committed to addressing health inequities and improving health outcomes for underserved communities. In 2020, we created the PhRMA Equity Initiative to advance these goals. Since then, we have dedicated significant time and resources toward health equity, clinical trial diversity, and diverse talent. Meaningful change only happens when we work together to build trust with the communities who have faced ongoing inequities.

Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

PhRMA partners with a variety of organizations through grants, events, and advocacy efforts to support underrepresented and underserved communities.

  • Affording All the Ability to Thrive.

The Kenneth C. Frazier PhRMA Scholars Program champions students from under-resourced backgrounds through needs-based scholarships to help bridge the gap between the aid they receive and the total cost of college.

  • Expanding Opportunities to Work and Succeed in the Biopharmaceutical Industry.

Building trust in underserved communities means fostering a workforce of employees within our industry that reflects the diverse populations of communities we serve. PhRMA’s annual Pathways to Success Graduate Summit and Career Expo and our LinkedIn Talent Community are two of the programs that exemplify our commitment to diversifying the talent pipeline.

  • Pursuing Health Equity.

Because every community faces unique barriers to equitable health outcomes, community initiated solutions like those that PhRMA’s Collaborative Actions to Reach Equity (CAREs) grant program seeks to support are key to tackling health inequities. Health equity also depends on removing social and health system barriers that prevent people from getting the medicines they need. PhRMA created an interactive simulation, “How Social Determinants of Health Impact Medicine Access” and published our first-ever Health Equity Chart Pack to help illustrate how social inequities negatively impact access to health care services and medicines.
